History of Sawley

Sawley a century ago.

Another long-term project was to produce a history of Sawley, the Derbyshire village where Geoffrey Kingscott had always lived. In 2008 he gave a talk on the History of Sawley Part One (up to 1259) to the Sawley & District Historical Society, followed by Part Two (1259 to 1787) in 2009.  The year 2009 marked the 750th anniversary of the granting by Henry III of a charter to Sawley, with the right to hold a weekly market and an annual fair.  This was celebrated in style on September 26, 2009, with a day of events. These included a Pageant of Sawley History, written by Geoffrey Kingscott, and the launch of the The Sawley Trail, a 32 -page illustrated booklet of walks round Sawley.
